A BJP worker who took part in a protest march to Raj Bhavan led by Bihar BJP president Samrat Choudhary and including legislators and leaders against the Nitish Kumar-led government died of injuries sustained in police action to disperse them, they said on Thursday two senior party leaders.

BJP activist Vijay Kumar Singh, general secretary of the party's Jehanabad unit, succumbed to his injuries at Patna Medical College Hospital, Union Home Minister Nityanand Rai said. Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi said Singh and other party workers sustained injuries when the police used force to disperse the protesters at Dakbungalow.

The BJP's protest march was aimed at demanding the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav from the Nitish Kumar government in view of the fresh charge sheet filed against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Patna District Magistrate (DM) Chandrasekhar Singh said the person, Vijay Singh of Jehanabad, was found unconscious in Chhajjubagh area, about 700 meters from Dakbungalow junction. The DM said that the man had no signs of injury and that he was sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Patna Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajiv Mishra told reporters that Vijay Singh died about 30 minutes after reaching the hospital. His body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death, Mishra added.

Dr. IS Thakur, medical superintendent of Patna Medical College Hospital, said the patient had no external signs of injury when he was taken to the hospital. "We intubated him and put him on a ventilator in the intensive care unit, but his EKG was flat (indicating that the patient had died)," said Dr Thakur, adding that the exact cause was given by Dr Thakur as internal injury or after suffered from a heart attack or for another reason", will be known only after the autopsy.

The BJP has announced that it will hold a march from the historic Gandhi Maidan to the Vidhan Sabha on July 13. The Bihar Assembly was suspended for the third consecutive day due to the BJP's protest.

On Thursday, the atmosphere ran high when a heavily deployed police force from Gandhi Maidan to the Bihar Assembly tried to stop the march led by Choudhary and other legislators and leaders at the Dak Bungalow crossing. Police said the protesters sat on a dharna at the Dak bungalow junctions and did not allow anyone to pass.
